Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Bishop O'dowd

Bishop O'Dowd had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Encinal Jets. That's more bragging rights for the Dragons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Jaella Mercado, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Frankie Aquino was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Bishop O'Dowd's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Encinal, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Bishop O'Dowd will head out on the road to take on Castro Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop O'Dowd 4.1, Castro Valley 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Encinal, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 4:00 p.m.
