Basketball Game Preview: North Stanly Comets vs. Anson Bearcats

The North Stanly Comets will face off against the Anson Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, North Stanly took their match with ease, bagging an 86-52 win over Albemarle. The victory continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Anson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 74-48 margin over Forest Hills on Tuesday.

North Stanly better keep an eye on Jayden Little. He was instrumental in Anson's win, going 11-for-17 on his way to 26 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Little is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 39 games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taviane Robinson, who almost dropped a triple-double with 11 points, 13 boards, and nine blocks.

Anson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 39 consecutive games dating back to last season.

North Stanly's win bumped their record up to 19-4. As for Anson, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-9.

North Stanly strolled past Anson in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a score of 93-75. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Little, who went 13-for-21 en route to 34 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will North Stanly still be able to contain Little? There's only one way to find out.
