Football Recap: Carlsbad Starts Season with Victory Against Lakewood

Carlsbad took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They breezed past Lakewood to the tune of 43-0. This was payback for Carlsbad, who suffered a 20-17 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Eli MacNeal went supernova, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes. Darian Webb was another key player, rushing for 60 yards and one TD.

When it comes to explaining why Lakewood lost, don't look at Kade Casillas. Despite the final result, he rushed for 104 yards on only five carries.

Carlsbad and Lakewood should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Lancers will square off against Oceanside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (28 vs. 197). Meanwhile, Lakewood (ranked 160th) will meet St. Anthony (ranked 360th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
