League recap: Eaton extends winning streak with victory over Valley

Eaton extended the longest winning streak in 2A Patriot this week by beating Valley, 55-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Eaton led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Vikings. Britten Abbott threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 35 yards in the win.

Trent Sieg was the best wideout in the league this week as Bill Mondt's team beat Valley. Sieg tallied six receptions for 168 yards. Nick Schreiber helped Eaton's passing attack out by catching one ball for 60 yards.

Kyle Rosenbrock was the most productive running back in 2A Patriot this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 201 yards as Brush defeated Ryan Wehrman's team. Mitch Tormohlen also contributed to the rushing game with 107 yards on the ground.

Jake Brown made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Beetdiggers beat Strasburg. The junior grabbed one interception.

Fort Lupton's Jeff Merritt and Jalen Vasquez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Merritt has thrown for 1006 yards this season, while Vasquez, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 29 catches for 514 yards. Austin Ekeler from Eaton leads the league in rushing with 1308 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Eaton takes on second place Platte Valley. Last week, the Reds bested the Vikings, while Platte Valley defeated the Blue Devils.

Brush's Rosenbrock needs only 38 yards against Valley next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 104 carries Rosenbrock has accumulated 962 yard this year.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Eaton takes on the Broncos. The Reds' offense has scored 273 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Platte Valley has allowed only 91 on the year.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Troy Hoffman's team takes on Eaton. The Broncos have allowed 91 points this season, while the Reds have given up 112. Platte Valley allowed 15 points last week as it defeated Fort Lupton.
