Softball Recap: Maynard Beats Ayer Shirley for Their Seventh Straight Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Maynard challenged Ayer Shirley on Wednesday. The Tigers never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jillian Macfarlane made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Haley Carroll was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh Raschi, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

The win (which was Maynard's seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ayer Shirley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maynard will challenge Advanced Math & Science Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ayer Shirley, they will square off against Tahanto Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
