Basketball Game Preview: Plainfield South Cougars vs. Morton Potters

The Plainfield South Cougars and the Morton Potters will round out the year against one another at at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Plainfield South is headed into Thursday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-46 heartbreaker at the hands of Maine West. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cougars came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Warriors are ranked 397th).

Meanwhile, everything went Morton's way against Lanphier on Saturday as Morton made off with a 59-39 win. The Potters have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season.

Plainfield South's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3. As for Morton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.

Plainfield South came up short against Morton in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 60-50. Can Plainfield South avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
