Preview: St. Michael the Archangel Warriors vs. Christ Chapel Academy
The St. Michael the Archangel Warriors will stay at home for another game and welcome Christ Chapel Academy at 4:30 p.m. on February 12th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, St. Michael the Archangel didn't have too much trouble with Foxcroft at home as they won 41-22.
St. Michael the Archangel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anjalia Bryant out in front who scored 15 points along with five steals. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Savannah Teel was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven steals.
Meanwhile, Christ Chapel Academy stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Immanuel Christian 60-30 on the road. Winning may never get old, but Christ Chapel Academy sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Christ Chapel Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dasia Smith, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zaria Gaskins, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
St. Michael the Archangel's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points per game. As for Christ Chapel Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Monday's contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: St. Michael the Archangel have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Christ Chapel Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. Michael the Archangel took a serious blow against Christ Chapel Academy in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 48-9. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point St. Michael the Archangel was down 37-3.
