Basketball Recap: Horizon Takes a Loss

Horizon and Grandview squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Horizon had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Grandview Wolves, falling 72-30. The loss continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost four in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Horizon lost, don't look at Kaitlin Schumann. Despite the final result, she posted nine points.

Grandview was led to victory by Sienna Betts and Ava Chang. Betts dropped a double-double with 24 points and 17 boards, while Chang shot 4-for-6 from long range and almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Betts is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last 44 games she's played dating back to last season. Maya Smith was another key player, putting up six points.

Horizon's defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Grandview, their victory was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3.

Horizon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Grandview, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Rocky Mountain at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Grandview's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
