Baseball Game Preview: Bayfield Wolverines vs. San Juan Broncos

The Bayfield Wolverines are taking a road trip to challenge the San Juan Broncos at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Bayfield came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Durango, falling 8-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolverines in their meetings with the Demons: they've now lost four in a row.

Bayfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Queen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, San Juan waltzed into their matchup on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 17-6 victory. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.

San Juan got a massive performance out of Cooper Palmer, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Palmer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Branten Bethea, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs.

San Juan lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

San Juan's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Bayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Bayfield couldn't quite get it done against San Juan in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-6. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
