Basketball Recap: Franklin Comes Up Short

Franklin easily dispatched Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech last Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Franklin Broncos fell just short of the Southampton Indians by a score of 55-52 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Indians are ranked 129th).

Tyrell Beverly was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds for Southampton. Beverly has been hot recently, having also posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. Israel Key was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Franklin's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Southampton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Franklin wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 41-35 victory against Camden County on the 20th. As for Southampton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 87-80 win against Colonial Heights on the 21st.
