Basketball Game Preview: Mullen Mustangs vs. Westminster Wolves

Mullen has gone 4-0 against Westminster recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mullen Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Westminster Wolves at 8:30 p.m. Mullen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.4 points per game this season.

Mullen took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Columbine by a score of 66-56.

Ben Medina and Mason Bonner were among the main playmakers for Mullen as the former went 10 for 20 on his way to 30 points and five steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 boards. The game was Medina's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Lewis, who posted ten points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Westminster's undefeated season came to an end after three games on Tuesday. They took a 60-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Skyline. The loss was the Wolves' first of the season.

Mullen will have to keep a close watch on Michael Davidson and Elyas Romero, a pair of players who had a big impact on Westminster's prior game. Davidson went 8 of 12 on his way to 18 points, while Romero went 6 of 10 on his way to 21 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Romero is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game.

Mullen now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Westminster, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mullen has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Westminster struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything came up roses for Mullen against Westminster in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, as the squad secured a 69-24 victory. In that matchup, Mullen amassed a halftime lead of 41-17, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
