Basketball Recap: Southern Wells Takes a Loss

If Southern Wells was riding high fresh off their 55-19 takedown of Heritage last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Southern Wells Raiders fell 61-53 to the Woodlan Warriors on Thursday. The Raiders were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Southern Wells lost, don't look at Ashlie Needler. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Davis, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Alyssa Anderson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds for Woodlan. Another player making a difference was Brooke Kneubuhler, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 15 points and five steals.

Southern Wells' defeat dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Woodlan, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Southern Wells will welcome Eastern at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Southern Wells is facing Eastern at the right time seeing as Eastern is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Woodlan, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-18 victory against Heritage on the 21st.
