Basketball Game Preview: South Winneshiek Warriors vs. Waukon Indians

South Winneshiek hasn't had much luck against Waukon recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The South Winneshiek Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Waukon Indians at 7:30 p.m. South Winneshiek knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Waukon likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, South Winneshiek took their game with ease, bagging a 67-29 victory over Clayton-Ridge. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Eagles are ranked 333rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Waukon posted their closest win since January 16, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged MFL MarMac out 55-52. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted against the Bulldogs since January 31, 2017.

Waukon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for South Winneshiek, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

South Winneshiek couldn't quite finish off Waukon in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 58-55. Can South Winneshiek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
