Austin proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bayside Academy Admirals, sneaking past 3-2. The win was familiar territory for the Black Bears, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Austin had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-12.

Charlie Barnes paced Austin's offense, picking up 12 kills. Barnes got some help from Maggie Jae Marsh and her 28 assists. Arden Breedlove controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Despite the loss, Bayside Academy still got an impressive performance from Mary Katherine Whitehurst, who had 20 digs and two aces. Farrah Lane also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

Austin's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Bayside Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4.

Austin has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Hernando on the 29th. As for Bayside Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Pace on the 29th.
