Volleyball Recap: Smithton Comes Up Short

If Smithton was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Bunceton on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell 3-1 to the Stover Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Smithton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-14.

Drew Bray paced Smithton's offense, picking up 11 kills. Bray got some help from Carolina Houston and her 27 assists. Aubree Huddleston controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Stover was led to victory by Shae Fisher and Maycee Burton. Fisher had eight digs, while Burton had 19 digs, five kills, and two aces. That's the most aces Burton has posted over her last eight matches.

Smithton's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Stover, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7-3 record this season.

Stover didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Green Ridge on the 8th. Hopefully Smithton paid attention to the Bulldogs' match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
