Baseball Recap: Thornwood Triumphs

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Thornwood and Rich Township have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Thunderbirds narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Raptors 11-10. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Thunderbirds also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Derrion Howard was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Thornwood: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hashim Vincent, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Thornwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rich Township only posted a batting average of .258.

Thornwood's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Rich Township, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Thornwood will have a chance to go back-to-back against Rich Township: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
