Basketball Recap: Midland Valley Comes Up Short

Midland Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They came up short against the Aiken Fighting Green Hornets, falling 65-43. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Fighting Green Hornets are ranked 64th).

Despite the defeat, Midland Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Trenity Madison posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adia Hughes, who scored seven points.

Aiken's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malasia Jamison, who had 30 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Jamison has scored at least a third of Aiken's points. Another player making a difference was Azaria Sapp, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Midland Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Aiken, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midland Valley has already played their next matchup (against South Aiken), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Aiken is taking a road trip to face off against Gray Collegiate Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gray Collegiate Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season.
