Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has gone 6-1 against Prairie Heights recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Saints will head out to challenge the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has three straight victories, Prairie Heights has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Fort Wayne North Side 18-1 on Thursday. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
Izzy Tudor made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Abby Gillespie was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Mackenzie Nees was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Prairie Heights' offense. They came up short against Eastside on Thursday, falling 9-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Prairie Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
Prairie Heights' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Prairie Heights, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger couldn't quite get it done against Prairie Heights when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
