Basketball Recap: Gulf Takes a Loss

If Gulf was feeling good fresh off their 76-4 takedown of Angeline Academy of Innovation last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gulf Buccaneers were dealt a 50-23 defeat at the hands of the River Ridge Royal Knights on Tuesday. The game marked the Buccaneers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

It was another big night for Lauren Lee, who went 9 for 17 on her way to 20 points along with eight boards and eight blocks for River Ridge. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lee has scored at least a third of River Ridge's points. Another player making a difference was Makayla Greene, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

The loss snapped Gulf's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-5 record. As for River Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Gulf will head out to square off against Sunlake at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sunlake will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Gulf surely won't give up without a fight. River Ridge has already played their next match (against Wiregrass Ranch), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
