Softball Game Preview: Cane Bay Cobras vs. Berkeley Stags

Cane Bay is 2-8 against Berkeley since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Cobras will challenge the Stags at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Cane Bay hadn't beaten Stratford on the road since April 4, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Cobras were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Knights.

Isabella Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Emma Tychek was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Dargan, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cane Bay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Berkeley waltzed into their match on Friday with 12 straight wins... but they left with 13. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Gators a 15-0 shutout. The Stags might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by seven runs or more this season.

Berkeley pushed their record up to 19-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cane Bay, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season.

Cane Bay suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Berkeley in their previous matchup on April 8th. Can the Cobras avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
