St. Brendan had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They slipped by the Northwestern Bulls 70-69 on Monday. This was a revenge game for the Sabres: when they faced off against the Bulls last Friday, they had to take a 89-73 defeat.

Calvin Russell Jr. and Jamiro Smith certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Russell Jr. dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards, while Smith went 6-for-7 en route to 18 points. With that strong performance, Russell Jr. is now averaging an impressive 8 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Dwight Carter, who posted ten points.

St. Brendan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points over those games. As for Northwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 23-4.

Looking ahead, St. Brendan will take on Stranahan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Stranahan will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something St. Brendan surely won't give up without a fight. Northwestern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
