Poquoson put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Bruton Panthers as they made off with a 21-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Islanders, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Natalie Klochak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Poquoson got a massive performance out of Alyssa Laney, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-5. Poquoson's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Bruton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poquoson will head out to take on New Kent at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Islanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
