Volleyball Recap: Immanuel Christian Falls to Desert Christian in First Game of Season

Immanuel Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 3-0 to the Desert Christian Knights on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2019.

While Immanuel Christian was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Desert Christian's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-7, 25-17, 25-18.

Ava Blakie paced Immanuel Christian's offense, picking up three kills. Blakie got some help from Neisha Schollars and her seven assists. Finally, Blakie was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high five blocks.

The win got Desert Christian back to even at 1-1.

Immanuel Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Boron on the 15th. As for Desert Christian, they will square off against Faith Baptist at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Knights their first taste of in-conference action this season.
