Volleyball Recap: The Nueva School Takes a Loss

The Nueva School was the 3-0 winner over Basis Independent Silicon Valley when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mavericks fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 3-2 on Thursday.

The Nueva School took Basis Independent Silicon Valley into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 15-8.

Despite the defeat, The Nueva School saw an underclassman step up: freshman Julia Cai had 15 kills, three digs, and three aces. Cai has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Langely Vassallo, who had 12 kills.

The Nueva School's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Basis Independent Silicon Valley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. The Nueva School will face off against rival More at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Basis Independent Silicon Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Summit Shasta at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
