Tri-Central hasn't had much luck against Clinton Central recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Trojans will square off against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m.
Things were looking good for Tri-Central after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Daleville by a score of 6-5. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jake Cherry was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Cherry was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.
In other batting news, Weston Enright made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Cline, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Clinton Central got themselves on the board against Taylor on Thursday, but Taylor never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Titans. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Tri-Central, Clinton Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Dillon Heaton. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. Those 19 strikeouts gave Heaton a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Clinton Central is undefeated when Heaton posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.
Heaton wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brady Boone, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Boone is becoming a predictor of Clinton Central's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Creed Mennen was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Tri-Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Clinton Central, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
