Softball Game Preview: West Genesee Wildcats vs. Fayetteville-Manlius Hornets

The West Genesee Wildcats will take on the Fayetteville-Manlius Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

West Genesee is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Cicero-North Syracuse just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Northstars, falling 14-4.

West Genesee saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Drogo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run. Brynlee Elkins was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Fayetteville-Manlius suffered their biggest defeat since May 26, 2024 on Monday. They lost 12-6 to Cicero-North Syracuse. Like the Wildcats, the Hornets also had to let a streak go: they had won four straight, but that streak is no more.

West Genesee's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Fayetteville-Manlius, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Genesee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Fayetteville-Manlius struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

West Genesee came out on top in a nail-biter against Fayetteville-Manlius in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
