Baseball Recap: Excel Christian Comes Up Short

Excel Christian extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 10-6-1 in the process. They lost 19-9 to the Mineral County Serpents. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Serpents apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Mineral County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.8 runs.

For Mineral County's part, Ryker Musselman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Musselman was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chase Reeves was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with six stolen bases, five runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Mineral County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-2 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Wilson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mineral County beat Excel Christian by a score of 16-13 later that day.
