Softball Recap: Grundy County Yellowjackets vs. Cascade Champions
Grundy County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 30 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They came up short against the Cascade Champions, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Champions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on April 1st.
As for Cascade, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for Cascade, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
For Cascade's part, Jocelyn Laughlin made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Laughlin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Caroline Parker was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Coming up, Grundy County will take on South Pittsburg at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Cascade does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
