Basketball Recap: Pender's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

It was a good run, but Pender unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell to the Norfolk Catholic Knights 46-41. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pendragons of the 62-41 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2017.

When it comes to explaining why Pender lost, don't look at Alex Roth. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten boards. That's the most points Roth has posted since back in December of 2023. Ryan Krueger was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Norfolk Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gavin Schutt, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 15 points. Another player making a difference was Max Hammond, who shot 50% from the field en route to 11 points and three steals.

Pender's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 21-5. As for Norfolk Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

Pender didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-32 loss against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] on the 3rd. As for Norfolk Catholic, they will face off against Archbishop Bergan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Norfolk Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.8 points per game this season.
