Senior shortstop's quest for national record ends despite another big win for small school powerhouse Eaton.

Colorado high school baseball star Walker Martin of Eaton hit a home run in nine consecutive games from March 25 to April 15. On Tuesday, that streak came to an end as he went 0-2 with two walks in an 11-0 win over Resurrection Christian (Loveland).

Ethan Bennett of Farragut (Knoxville, Tenn.) is the national record holder for consecutive games with a home run, going yard in 10 straight during the 2010 season.

Martin walked in the first inning and grounded out in the second and fifth innings. He got a final chance in the seventh inning but walked once again, ending his opportunity to extend the home run streak.

Headed to Arkansas next fall, Martin has 22 career home runs and is No. 71 on MLB.com's rankings that include high school and collegiate prospects ahead of the 2023 MLB Draft in July.

During the nine-game home run stretch, Martin hit .808 with nine home runs, five doubles, two triples and 33 RBI.

Martin started the streak with a home run on March 25 in an 11-1 win over Alamosa. In a run of three games from March 30-April 3, he got a hit in all 10 of his at-bats.

Martin is a three-sport athlete who has helped quarterback the Reds to three-straight state championships and combined for 41 touchdowns as a senior. He also played basketball during his first three years of high school and averaged 14.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game as a junior.

Eaton is a small school baseball powerhouse in Colorado with a state-best 13 championships under its belt and 17 title game appearances since 2000. This year's Reds are continuing the tradition with a 13-0 record, outscoring their opponents 194-14 in the process.
