Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Merino's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Merino had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Eads Eagles on Saturday as they made off with a 12-3 victory. Considering the Rams have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Coen Schmidt made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Schmidt was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaac Poe, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mickey Swiger, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Merino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Merino is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Eads fell to 19-1.

Coming up, Merino will head out to challenge Flatirons Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bison's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Eads does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
