Basketball Recap: Garner Comes Up Short

Garner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Woodson Cowboys 59-28. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Longhorns of the 62-18 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Garner saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brayden Martinez posted 11 points. Martinez has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. Dawson Miller was another key player, putting up six points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jace Munoz, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Caleb Valentic, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Garner's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Woodson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9.

Garner wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-38 defeat against Bryson on the 24th. Woodson has also already played their next game, a 74-5 win against Throckmorton on the 24th.
