Flag Football Recap: Meg Robinson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Rockmart

There's no place like home for Bowdon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 27-12 win over the Rockmart Yellowjackets on Wednesday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Red Devils' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia flag football rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 239th).

Bowdon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meg Robinson, who threw for 146 yards and two TDs. Amari King got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Bowdon's run defense was locked in: Rockmart could only muster one yards per carry. While five picked up at least one total tackle, Troi Brown stood above the rest. She picked up 40 receiving yards and one score. Bowdon's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.32 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.33 on average over their last five games.

Bowdon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off six passes before the game was over. Robinson led the group effort, picking up three of those interceptions all by herself. King got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Rockmart saw an underclassman step up: freshman Camari Peek picked up 129 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Peek's longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards.

Bowdon's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.3 points on average over those games. As for Rockmart, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-10.

Coincidentally, Bowdon and Rockmart will both be playing Villa Rica the next time they take the field. The Yellowjackets will head out to face the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Red Devils will play them later in the day, at 8:00 p.m.
