Basketball Recap: Heartland Find Success

Heartland won the last time they faced Fullerton and things went their way on Friday too. The Heartland Huskies slipped by the Fullerton Warriors 35-34. The victory was nothing new for the Huskies as they're now sitting on four straight.

Heartland was led to victory by Isabel Johnson and Hallie Tessman. Johnson posted nine points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Tessman put up eight points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals gave Tessman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Hiebner, who had five points and six steals.

When it comes to explaining why Fullerton lost, don't look at Jaci Maxfield. Despite the final result, she went 7 of 15 on her way to 17 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Maxfield is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ella Pickrel, who posted six points.

Heartland now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Fullerton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Heartland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-19 loss against Cross County on the 11th. As for Fullerton, they will challenge Elgin/Pope John at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elgin/Pope John is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.
