Basketball Game Preview: Deep Run Wildcats vs. Godwin Eagles

The Deep Run Wildcats will head out to challenge the Godwin Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Deep Run took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Patrick Henry, posting a 77-18 victory. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Patriots are ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Godwin was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Hermitage 59-30. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Godwin's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for Deep Run, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

Deep Run beat Godwin 55-43 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Godwin's Reagan Nemeyer, who went 8 for 11 en route to 23 points and five rebounds.
