Recap: Catalina Trojans vs. Thatcher Eagles
The Catalina Trojans lost against the Thatcher Eagles back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Catalina took a serious blow against Thatcher, falling 74-6. Catalina has not had much luck with Thatcher recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Thatcher was led to victory by Cambria Wakefield and Jade Griffin. Wakefield scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three blocks, while Griffin scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Griffin scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Sophie Welker, who scored six points.
Catalina has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Thatcher, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Catalina will take on Tanque Verde at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Tanque Verde is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Thatcher, they will stay at home for another game and welcome St. David at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th. St. David presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Thatcher in Arizona (St. David is ranked 41st, while Thatcher is ranked 157th).
