Softball Recap: Archbishop Mitty Takes a Loss

Archbishop Mitty lost against Saint Francis back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Monarchs fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 3-1.

Kyleigh Mace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Archbishop Mitty saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylie Hicks, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Archbishop Mitty has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-5-1 record this season. As for Saint Francis, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Archbishop Mitty and Saint Francis should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Monarchs (ranked 95th) will meet Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (ranked 446th) at 4:00 p.m. on the 30th. Meanwhile, Saint Francis will challenge Gilroy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (6 vs. 105). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lancers 1.2, the Mustangs 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
