Preview: Northern Patriots vs. Leonardtown Raiders
Northern is 1-9 against Leonardtown since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Northern Patriots will head out on the road to challenge the Leonardtown Raiders at 6:30 p.m. Northern will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Even though Northern has not done well against Chopticon recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Northern walked away with a 46-35 win over Chopticon.
Mikayla Jones was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Marvray, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Leonardtown can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Wednesday. They blew past Lackey, posting a 57-17 victory on the road. The win made it back-to-back wins for Leonardtown.
Northern is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Leonardtown, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5.
Northern came up short against Leonardtown when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 40-27. Thankfully for Northern, Catherine Kolwey (who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
