Basketball Game Preview: Rockford Auburn Knights vs. Hononegah Indians

The Rockford Auburn Knights will take on the Hononegah Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Rockford Auburn sitting on three straight victories and Hononegah on six.

Rockford Auburn is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Belvidere: they outscored them in every quarter. Rockford Auburn blew past Belvidere 69-49 on Wednesday. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Bucs are ranked 500th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rockford Auburn's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tazheer Henderson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Henderson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Champ Parker, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Rockford Auburn was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Hononegah hadn't done well against Boylan Catholic recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Hononegah blew past Boylan Catholic, posting a 67-38 win. The Indians have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 20 points or more this season.

Rockford Auburn pushed their record up to 19-12 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points over those games. As for Hononegah, their win bumped their record up to 20-10.

Rockford Auburn came up short against Hononegah when the teams last played last Friday, falling 54-45. Can Rockford Auburn avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
