Basketball Recap: Chandler Love Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Effingham County

Evans posted their closest victory since January 12, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-49 win over the Effingham County Rebels. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Rebels last Thursday, they had to take a 67-60 defeat.

Evans' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chandler Love, who went 6 for 13 en route to 16 points and three steals. Love is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tizher Scott, who posted 15 points.

Effingham County's loss came despite strong showings from Damion Gordon and Elyjah Doty. Gordon earned eight points and five steals, while Doty put up 15 points and five rebounds. Those five steals gave Gordon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joseph Polite, who had eight points and five boards.

The win made it two in a row for Evans and bumps their season record up to 9-13. As for Effingham County, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-14.

Evans will venture away from home to face off against Lakeside at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Lakeside's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Effingham County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-56 victory against South Effingham on the 5th.
