Baseball Recap: Union Academy Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Union Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on the Gray Stone Day Knights with a sharp 15-5 win on Monday. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Jacob Melton looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Zamarion Shine was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Union Academy is undefeated when Shine posts two or more runs, but 5-14 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Pawl, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBI.

Union Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Union Academy's win bumped their record up to 9-14. As for Gray Stone Day, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Union Academy has already played their next game, a 13-3 loss against North Stanly on the 29th. Gray Stone Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
