Baseball Game Preview: Spooner Rails vs. Northwestern Tigers

The Spooner Rails will head out on the road to take on the Northwestern Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Spooner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Northwestern will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Spooner extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Rails walked away with a 7-3 win over Ellsworth.

Evan Potaczek made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Ben Eichten and Jarrett Meier did most of the damage at the plate: Eichten went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Meier scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Meier also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Northwestern was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Croix Falls on Friday, taking the game 6-3.

Spooner's record now sits at 3-1. As for Northwestern, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Everything went Spooner's way against Northwestern in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Spooner made off with a 12-2 victory. Will the Rails repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
