Preview: Claremont Wolfpack vs. Los Osos Grizzlies
The Claremont Wolfpack will be playing in front of their home fans against the Los Osos Grizzlies at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Claremont: they have been struggling with nine straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Los Osos has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Last Monday, Claremont lost to Workman at home by a decisive 68-54 margin. Even though they lost, Claremont's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.2 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Despite the defeat, Claremont saw an underclassman step up: Jaden Cardenas dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. The match was Cardenas' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hugo Montejo, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Los Osos had to settle for a 53-51 defeat against Western Christian on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Los Osos came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Western Christian is ranked 382nd).
Claremont has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Los Osos, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
