Baseball Game Preview: Silverado Hawks vs. Granite Hills Cougars

For the second straight game, Silverado will face off against Granite Hills. The Hawks will take on the Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Silverado is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Last Wednesday, Silverado narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Granite Hills 6-5.

Jace Weiss was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Silverado is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise. Weiss was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Fabian Garcia and Jayden Pauling did most of the damage at the plate: Garcia went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double, while Pauling scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Pauling has become a key player for Silverado: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

Silverado pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Granite Hills, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Silverado has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Granite Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts.
