Preview: Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars vs. Volcano Vista Hawks

Atrisco Heritage Academy is 1-8 against Volcano Vista since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars will be playing at home against the Volcano Vista Hawks at 11:00 a.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Two weeks ago, Atrisco Heritage Academy took a serious blow against Cleveland, falling 56-6. While losing is never fun, Atrisco Heritage Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Cleveland is ranked third).

Despite the defeat, Atrisco Heritage Academy got a solid performance out of Marquise Renfro, who gained 139 total yards. Renfro was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards.

Meanwhile, Volcano Vista came up short against Rio Rancho on Friday and fell 24-17.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Alijah (A-Train) Gonzales, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.

This is the second loss in a row for Atrisco Heritage Academy and nudges their season record down to 5-4. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.0 points per game. As for Volcano Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Atrisco Heritage Academy was dealt a bruising 64-14 defeat at the hands of Volcano Vista in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Atrisco Heritage Academy, Elliot Paskett-Bell (who threw for 269 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 97 yards on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
