Ethan Freed tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Spring-Ford saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Witmer, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Ethan Schultz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Perkiomen Valley made easy work of Norristown on Friday and carried off an 11-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.
Michael Strechay was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Andrew Keenan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Spring-Ford pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Perkiomen Valley, their record now sits at 10-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Spring-Ford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Perkiomen Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Spring-Ford couldn't quite get it done against Perkiomen Valley in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 5-1. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
