Basketball Recap: Aurora Comes Up Short

Aurora has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the York Dukes. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Huskies came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Dukes are ranked 102nd).

Despite the loss, Aurora still got an impressive performance from Canon Allen, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 17 points along with seven boards and five assists. Allen is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Jaxon Slagle was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Among those leading the charge was Dax Peterson, who shot 64% from the field en route to 16 points in addition to six boards and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Dylan Oberle, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 15 points.

Aurora's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 18-6. As for York, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.

Aurora does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for York, they have already played their next contest, a 72-45 defeat against Gretna East on the 3rd.
