Newhalen saw some tournament action on Thursday. They blew past the Cook Inlet Academy Eagles, posting an 89-35 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Malamutes.

Newhalen got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ida Lester out in front who posted 27 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Pagan Lester, who earned eight points along with eight assists and eight boards.

Newhalen's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Cook Inlet Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Newhalen and Fort Yukon will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Fort Yukon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season. As for Cook Inlet Academy, they will be taking part in a tournament against Nunamiut at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.
