Softball Game Preview: James Wood Colonels vs. Fauquier Falcons

The James Wood Colonels are taking a road trip to face off against the Fauquier Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

James Wood proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Clarke County 4-3. The victory continues a trend for the Colonels in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday Fauquier's undefeated season almost came to an end. They never let Sherando get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. The one-run effort marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

James Wood's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fauquier, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything went James Wood's way against Fauquier in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as James Wood made off with a 14-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colonels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
