Baseball Game Preview: Pendleton County Wildcats vs. Holmes Bulldogs

Pendleton County and Holmes are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pendleton County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Pendleton County proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 17) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Mason County 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 22, 2025.

Ellis Shutters made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Jacob Frisch was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Micah Biddle was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Meanwhile, Holmes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They lost 21-5 to Holy Cross.

Pendleton County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Holmes, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12-1.

Pendleton County got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 against Holmes by a conclusive 16-1 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
